At Wharton and Penn, Alaric Qin found that he could do even more than he thought possible. “I’ve learned that I can be as efficient as any other student at Penn when there is a quickly approaching deadline (or as is more usually the case, a large set of deadlines),” he said. “In other words, I learn and work better under pressure.”

3 best things about Wharton

  1. Sampling vastly different fields of study
  2. Meeting unique people from around the world
  3. Exploring future career opportunities in a safe and supportive environment.

What I want to do with my business education

I want to use my business and technical knowledge to improve the lives of those around me and give back to the community that brought me to where I am today. I often think about the important people in my life who, through guidance and mentorship, brought me to where I am today – and I can only hope that I serve in the same function for others as well.

Favorite activity

I enjoy teaching and working with middle school students – I coach my own Science Olympiad team, and intend to bring them to the National tournament this year. Working with these students and watching them grow is a very rewarding experience, and I can definitively say that working with them is one of my favorite activities outside of academic life.

What makes Penn special

To me, it’s this big-school, small-community attitude – that even though there are thousands of students here studying a variety of different subjects, it still feels as if the school is much smaller and closer. You never really feel like you’re lost in the crowd, because you’ll always see familiar faces and friendly people.
